Proofing for Rats and Mice

In Pests

A large number of rodent treatments we conduct are for flats, semi detached and terraced houses. With these jobs just baiting is not often enough to deal with the problem and re-infestation is likely to occur. Proofing for rats & mice is a service provided by PESTUK, our technicians are fully trained and some have previous experience in the building trade.

Rat and mice behaviour

Rodents will commonly use cavity walls, soffits and loft spaces before coming to an area where they are seen or heard or any evidence such as droppings, smells or gnawing is noted. They may be found entering a row of terraced houses several properties away from where they are actually appearing. Kitchens, lofts and bathrooms are the rooms with the most utilities in (kitchens have food). These are the rooms in a dwelling that rodents will have easiest access to once they are in the structure of the building. Often this is due to gaps left around pipe work.  Older style air bricks allow mice to squeeze through the gaps while the newer plastic ones (see picture) can be gnawed through by rats. We can fit air brick covers to solve the mouse problem if this is the access point.
Sometimes there is more than one entry point into a home and only by proofing many different areas will solve a problem.
