The town spans both sides of the River Kennet and the Kennet and Avon Canal,
there is a large market square spread in its centre. Newbury is famous for its racecourse, which has recently been redeveloped with new housing and a hotel.
In the surrounding area there are many horse race trainers as well as Highclere and Donnington Castle. PEST UK have pest control contracts at several of these training stables, including Clare Balding’s stables.
Newbury was formed in the late 11th century after the Norman invasion. The cloth trade played an important part of Newbury’s wealth. There were two battles nearby in the Civil War.
