How to prevent rats getting into large capacity bins

In Featured, Pests

Communal bin stores that house large capacity wheelie bins for flats or restaurants are a rat’s paradise. They provide a source of food and shelter for rats so it’s essential that they’re kept clean and tidy.

When our technicians are called out to treat rats in bin stores they’ve observed that the bung from the drainage hole at the bottom of the bin is often missing. The purpose of the hole is to allow fluids to drain out of the bin, but if its not sealed afterwards it provides access for rats to get into the bin. The bin then becomes the go to place for rats to get food.

We now install drainage plugs/bungs in large capacity wheelie bins to prevent them being a source of food for rats.
