High Wycombe is an Industrial and market town. A market has been held in the town since the Middle Ages. High Wycombe was a mill town in Medieval and Tudor times manufacturing lace and linen. There was a paper industry present in the 17th and 18th century in High Wycombe. The River Wye is rich in chalk which made it ideal for paper bleaching. The most famous industry was the manufacturing of furniture.
