What pests to expect in Spring
As temperatures begin to rise and flowers begin to flourish and bloom again, pests become more active as well. Below PEST UK give you a list of what pests to expect in Spring and how we can deal with them for you.
Ants
Worker ants frequently enter homes foraging for food, especially sweet substances. While they are not a risk to humans, they can be present in large enough numbers to be a nuisance. The ants will be coming from several nests so locating one nest and destroying that will have a limited effect on your problem.
Treatment of Ants
We will treat the infested and the surrounding areas with an insecticide spray or use a gel bait along with a residual spray. These insecticides are the most modern insecticides available. All insecticides are biodegradable, non tainting and do not corrode or stain.
The ants walking over the treated areas return to the nest, touching other ants and larvae with their contaminated bodies passing on insecticide to kill the nest. With gel baits the ants will ingest and regurgitate the poison for other ants to feed on and the poison is passed on this way.
Cockroaches
You will know you have a problem when you can see dead and alive cockroaches. Cockroaches are nocturnal, so they are mostly seen at night. They require high temperatures to live, although will survive and tolerate low temperatures. They are most commonly found in kitchens of restaurants or laundry rooms, boiler rooms in hospitals and blocks of flats. In a kitchen the favourite places for them to live will be inside fridges, cookers, boilers and washing machines.
Prior To Treatment
The cleaner the infested areas are, the better chance of success you will have. We suggest you clean under and in cookers, fridges etc. Contact you neighbors or any building connected to yours to see if they have a problem. Treatment of large communal buildings only work if the whole building is treated at the same time.
Treatment
The cockroach infestation will be baited using Advion Cockroach Gel Bait which contains Indoxacarb or treated with an insecticide spray.
Flies
There are many types of flies that can be a nuisance to your home or business. These range from common House Flies, to Filter Flies and Blue/Green Bottle Flies. Each type has a preferred food source and breeding area. Our technicians are all fully trained and able to deal with these pests and give suggestions on how to prevent further problems from occurring.
Treatment
This depends on circumstances and type of fly. A combination approach may be best and can include insecticide application, fly screening & sorting out the breeding site. A common domestic treatment is for us to apply a residual insecticide to the walls & ceilings. This kills flies as they land on the treated surfaces & as the insecticide is residual will last 1-3 months inside. Prior to treatment it is important that the surfaces to be treated are clean and dust free. All the insecticides we used are biodegradable and safe.
