Buy With Confidence
The Buy With Confidence scheme was set up by Local Authorities with the help of Trading Standards. As yet the scheme does not cover the whole of the UK and the areas are based on Local Authority areas and currently most areas covered by the scheme are in London and the southern half of England. If a prospective customer is looking for a tradesman they need to go to the web site and choose the Find A Business button.
The customer then enters the type of business required, the distance the search should cover followed by their postcode. The customer is then presented with a list of companies that are Trading Standards Approved.
This scheme is approved by Trading Standards and to be a member the companies that apply are vetted but not to the same extent as with the British Pest Control Association (BPCA) and as to be expected are not so industry specific. They do check that all people who work for the company are CIB checked and that the companies obey consumer law and supply customers with the correct cancellation rights. Currently they have over 5000 companies who are members. Local Authorities can set up a Buy With Confidence scheme in their area and so can a Trade Association.
PEST UK is a member of Buy With Confidence. We only joined this year and passed the inspection without any problems. As well as the usual documents we also had to supply ten people we had done work for who were then interviewed by the Buy With Confidence assessor.
