Salisbury pest control

PESTUK now provide pest control services for Salisbury. We are a fully insured company, established in 1985, providing pest control services to Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Surrey and London.

Our technician Sean Benham has most recently treated carpet beetles in the area. These pests will cause damage to clothes & carpets and if not suitably controlled will only increase in number.

Carpet beetles

The Clothes Moth, are a pest on carpets with wool content. they can also feed on clothes. It is the larvae of the species that will be causing the damage. The adults do not feed on wool at all but on pollen and nectar. Usually undisturbed areas of carpets or clothes that have not been worn for a long time will be the food source. Often when a piece of standing furniture is moved you will notice the damage.

Preparation and treatment

All areas around the affected areas should be cleaned, carpets vacuumed and furniture moved. We will treat carpets, wardrobes, drawers in the infested and surrounding areas with one of the following insecticides: Effect Microtech CS’* which contains Lambdacyhalothrin, Ficam W which contains 80% Bendiocarb w/w or K-Othrine which contains Deltamethrin. Also a powder might be used called Ficam D*. This contains an insecticide in a dust formulation @ 1% w/w Bendiocarb. All insecticides are biodegradable, almost odourless, non tainting & do not corrode or stain. These are not highly toxic towards mammals but are extremely so to all forms of crawling and flying public health pests.

After care

It is important that you do not wash or vacuum treated areas for at least a month. Once this period is over its important to be very thorough when vacuuming especially the undisturbed areas. All areas, including carpet areas under standing furniture must be vacuumed on a regular basis.  The technician attending will explain the after care at the time of treatment as well.

Small numbers of adult and larvae forms may be present for some time after treatment depending on temperature and the amount of infestation. Moths that are in the pupa stage at the time of treatment may still hatch into adults but will only live for 2-7 days (depending on temperature), the moths emerging from the pupa may do so over a period of several weeks depending on temperature & the time of year. Insecticide treatments will only work on clean surfaces.

PESTUK are full members of the BPCA. The BPCA are the governing body for those with an interest in the control of public health pests. We recommend that any pest control work should be undertaken by a qualified technician who is a member of the BPCA. Membership is earned, not bought, and regular training and development of safe methods of eradication are required to be a member.
