Squirrel Oxford

Squirrels in Oxford- can cause damage in lofts

History

Originally a Saxon settlement, and first mentioned by name as Oxnaforda, the location was of strategic importance due to its location on the upper reaches of the River Thames and the junction with the River Cherwell. In the 12th century became home to the fledgling Oxford University.

Oxford is today known worldwide as the home of the University of Oxford, the oldest university in the English speaking world. There are multiple buildings showing the different architectural styles found in England since late Saxon times.

Economically diverse the city is home to motor manufacturing, education, publishing and a large number of information technology and science-based businesses, some of which are academic offshoots.

Within the city are many suburbs and neighbourhoods. We have many contracts with companies and private homes in the areas mentioned and provide ‘one off’ treatments as well for insects and other pests.

Oxford rats

Rats use sewer pipes for foraging.

Common pests treated in the area

Some of the pests that we most commonly treat in Oxford and Oxfordshire as a whole include-

  • Rats
  • Mice
  • Cockroaches
  • Pigeons
  • Squirrels
  • Fleas

Example pest problem- Fleas

Finding bites below the knees whether you have pets or have just moved home and started finding bite marks could be a sign of fleas.

PESTUK can treat your flea problem with a residual insecticide spray treatment. This treatment requires some prep work by yourself before the technician arrives. Please hoover the carpeted areas, paying particular attention to corners, skirting board edges and under any static furniture. Move items from under the beds  and empty the hoover into an outside bin.

The technician will spray these areas with the residual spray. The spray will take 2-3 hours to dry. Once dry we recommend that you do not hoover for at least 3 weeks to ensure that all fleas and eggs are dealt with. If you have a pet we recommend keeping them inside for this period of time with a flea treatment for them as well. If no pets are present then please occupy the treated rooms as much as possible to cause the fleas to be active, otherwise they will go into hibernation and will not be affected by the spray.

PESTUK Contracts

Most businesses are required by law to ensure that their premises remain pest free, and the easiest and most effective way to do this is to have regular a Pest Control Contract.

Pest control contracts are usually considered for commercial premises, they can be useful for domestic and residential properties as well. Particularly large properties, with extensive grounds and horses, chickens or other livestock may benefit from regular inspections. A domestic pest  control contract can also provide peace of mind for holiday homes which may be empty for extended periods.

A good contract from a reliable contractor should ensure that your premises, your staff and your business will be safe from pests and safe from any bad publicity and prosecutions that can occur if pests are found. If you have livestock or pets you will want to know that they are as protected as possible.
