Rats in London
Signs you may have a rat problem in your house, flat or shop include seeing, hearing or smelling their urine. Seeing or suffering the consequences of their damage topers of your property including droppings or gnawing.
In domestic gardens bird feeding, compost heaps and animal droppings are the main causes for their appearance. If you see rats during daylight hours this can be a sign of a larger problem. As they mainly are active at night. Rat runs are noted by a lack of vegetation, smear marks, footprints and packed down earth. Rats lie in burrows dug into the earth and can cause damage by collecting nesting materials and soiling food with urine.
The burrows can resemble small rabbit holes. They may dig their burrows in earth or in compost heaps, however they are adaptable and make use of areas under sheds or inside of buildings. Lofts can be used as resting places with kitchens as a food source. Rats are extremely intelligent, adapting to their surroundings. This is what makes them one of the most successful animals on the planet and makes controlling rats a difficult task.
Treatment of rats
Rat infestations are dealt with using a cereal based poison bait containing an anticoagulant poison. This poison usually requires the rats to feed several times before they begin to die. This ensures that they do not become suspicious and associate the bait with illness or death and a ‘complete kill’ takes place killing all the rats in the colony.
