Pest Control Contracts for Schools:
The first contact between schools and pest control companies usually comes not when they have a pest problem or issues regarding their catering sites but with a call out for wasp nests. Due to the size and spread of buildings a school has potential to have many wasps nests in a season. One school in Wokingham had 30 in one year! The equates to nearly £1500.00 spent on just treating wasp nests. This was in a ‘bumper’ wasp year. In a normal year the same site could expect to get 10-15 nests in a year. This school has now taken an annual pest control contract with PEST UK.

A pest control contract that includes the treatment of wasp nests would save a school money. The cost is fixed so that it is the pest control company that bears the cost of the fluctuations in wasp nest numbers. Also when the technician is attending he/she would take a proactive approach to search for more nests whilst on site thus reducing the number of call outs and potential wasp problems to staff and pupils in the future. Another advantage is that under normal circumstances the same technician would attend who knows the site, access conditions, the maintenance staff and other unique factors. At PEST UK all staff are CRB checked, another important factor with schools.

A pest control contract can also cover the kitchen areas with all the advantages of a food type pest control contract (see previous blog).

PEST UK have approximately 60 contracts with schools, both private and state throughout Berkshire, North Hampshire, South Oxfordshire, South Buckinghamshire and Surrey. Although not a massive number compared with the current 820 contracts we have at the moment it is an important percentage that is growing year by year.

In the ‘old days’ a school would immediately phone their local authority or council should they have a pest problem. Mainly due to poor service, especially the waiting time in the Summer, Schools choose to use private companies. Schools now have more control of their budgets so are not restricted as to which contractors they use as in the past.

A pest control contract will save a school money and lead to reduced pest problems.
