House Flies in the Summer

House Flies in the summer are attracted to decaying food matter, meat and faeces. Other foods they are interested in include pet food, animal feed and human food and waste. House flies usually live between 10 and 30 days, eggs will be laid in standing water or a food source that the larvae will propagate on.

Stopping flies yourself

The most important step in controlling flies is cleaning. Food debris and waste should be tidied away as soon as possible and any messes or spills should be cleaned up as well. This should include your garden and other exterior areas as well as inside your home.  

Humidity is another factor that helps flies thrive. This and sources of water or moisture should be limited as much as possible.

Home remedies such as hanging bags of water and essential oils do not work. We recommend that if a fly issue has become distressing that a residual insecticide spray by a professional is carried out. This spray will kill flies as they land on it and can stay affective for up to 3 weeks. It works best on clean surfaces.
