Fogging lofts for wasps
A spot of spring cleaning or a mysterious random wasp in a room of the house could lead to the discovery of wasps at your home. Especially in the early spring. Fogging lofts for wasps can often times be the best solution at this time of year where a large nest is not visible or not yet developed.
What is fogging?
PESTUK can apply an insecticide ‘fog’ to the loft area as well as a residual insecticide spray to areas inside rooms (usually walls & ceilings) where wasps are being seen. This type of treatment will greatly reduce the problem but does take time to work as the wasps’ metabolism can be very slow so the uptake of insecticide can take some time (2-3 weeks). All the insecticides used by PEST UK are virtually harmless to all mammals.
Wasps- general information
Wasps are one of the most familiar and generally feared groups of insects. They belong to the order of insects called Hymenoptera which includes bees and ants. Most of these posses stingers which are mainly used against other insects but can be turned against humans with unpleasant results. The types of wasp nests commonly found in the UK include-
- Common Wasp (Brownish/Creamy colour nest* with whirls)
- German Wasp (Grey nest*)
- Tree Wasp, Very aggressive not common
- Norwegian Wasp, Not found in southern England.
- Cuckoo Wasp
- Hornet
* Nest colour only differs once the workers take over nest building. Queen built nests are grey.
The common and German wasps are the two species most likely to be found during a domestic treatment.
