Moles Control

Fumigant

The mole runs would have been treated by putting a fumigation tablet of PHOSTOXIN.

Operator Procedure

TRAPS

Traps are put in places most likely to catch the mole quickly. Moles are not sociable animals and adults live alone, defending their territory against other moles. The size of the territory depends on food supply, which can be between 400-2000 square metres. This trap treatment is based on one visit ,which is often successful, but due to the erratic and unpredictable behaviour of moles, more than one attempt is sometimes necessary. Further settings of the traps are not included in the price. The operator will show you how to set the traps when he first installs them. GAS TREATMENT Gas treatments are not always successful and if the mole is killed then the territory can be occupied soon after. The price charged is for one application.

Methods of Control

What method do you use? There are two methods, the gas treatment using Talunex (phostoxin) gas, or the trap treatment using 'tunnel type' mole traps. We recommend the trap treatment, as the gas is only 60-70% effective. Moles are very unpredictable in their movements which is why the price quoted is for one visit only (whether this is the gas or trap treatment). With the trap treatment we show you how to set the mole traps and install them for you. Sometimes the moles are caught straight away or you may have to move the traps several times until you get a result. Moles are not social animals and live on there own. The male goes to the female's territory to mate and they part straight away. The female has her young in early Spring and they leave as soon as they can to establish their own territories. The standard price allows for one visit.

Dos and Donts (when setting traps)

Push down one of the springs as far as possible before putting the retaining lever over locking in the crook of the trigger loop (this trigger loop may be adjusted with a pair of pliers to make the trap more, or less, sensitive if required). Repeat for the other end of the trap. Take a spade and make a hole in the run to suit the dimensions of the trap, or find the hole in the mole hill and follow the tunnel until it reaches a run and then install the trap (do not set the trap in a mole hill). Do not block the tunnel with earth or let any light in. Cover with grass and a loose layer of soil. Do not smoke, use scented soap or wear rubber gloves (Nitrile gloves are OK) before setting. Check traps daily and reset if activity moves or the mole is burrowing around the trap.
