This year the wasp nests have been behind ‘normal’ years This time last year we were taking up to 70 wasp nests jobs per day. Our catchment area includes the towns and surrounding areas of: Newbury, Hungerford, Basingstoke, Andover, Alton, Ascot, Camberley, Aldershot, Fleet, Reading, Slough, Woking, Wokingham, Bracknell, Ottershaw, Edgware, Watford, Maidenhead, Marlow Henley, Tadley, High Wycombe, Staines, Egham, Sunningdale, Gerrards Cross, Farnborough, Farnham, Guildford, Harrow, Hounslow, Northwood, Uxbridge and Windsor. This year we are taking 20-30 wasp nests per day but this total is slowly increasing. Luckily rat, mouse and squirrel jobs have not dropped off as much as usual in the Summer. The reading for the slow wasp nest start was that the Spring was cloudy and wet. This means the nests take longer to reach a ‘safe stage in their development. This safe stage is when the Queen has enough workers to be able to stay in the relative safety of the nest whilst the workers carry on the tasks of collecting food, nest material (this is chewed up bark and ‘gone off’ surfaces from wooden fencing and garden furniture) and protecting the nest. Late Spring and early Summer the nests go into a massive expansion from only the Queen Wasp to a population of several thousand.

PESTUK offer a guaranteed treatment costing £50 + VAT (£60 inc VAT). In a lot of cases the nest cannot be removed as it is inaccessible, in places like in a cavity wall or under ground. It is not necessary to remove a wasp nest as it cannot ever be used again.
